The CITT/ICTS Board of Directors has issued a statement addressing the cancellation of the 2020 Expo-Scene show and the potential financial impact this could have on the organization.
CITT/ICTS's statement reads:
"It is our profound regret that the world is currently going through unpredictable and unprecedented events which are having a catastrophic impact on so much of our industry. We, at CITT/ICTS, have not been immune to this, as last week we were forced, by order of the Government of Quebec, to cancel our flagship event EXPO-SCÈNE scheduled at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.
"As CITT/ICTS is not subsided by any government program, we rely heavily on the income from the EXPO-SCÈNE show to ensure the annual support to our regional sections, the ongoing programming to the membership, and the sustainability of the organisation. This cancellation is a significant financial blow to the organization and will result in a $250 000.00 operating deficit for 2020 fiscal year, which will likely only increase if the situation does not resolve quickly. We are working with our insurance company and our lawyer to determine the best path forward for our organization.
"At this time, we are still working on presenting Rendez-vous Annual Conference and Trade Show, which is scheduled in August, in London, Ontario. However we are continuing to monitor the situation and its possible effects on the event.
Members, we need your patience as we await further information. We are all devastated and trying very hard to do our best for everyone. These are very difficult circumstances for all of us. Please take note that the national office is closed and the staff will be working remotely until further notice.
Thank you for your understanding and support."
