Anthony Crea, a veteran of the Canadian live events industry, has launched a new initiative called Techs In Need (T.I.N.) to support live event professionals currently out of work due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. T.I.N. will be hosting an ongoing busking concert series and other events to raise funds that will then be distributed to applicants. Additionally, donations are being accepted via a crowdfunding campaign at: https://gf.me/u/yu99fj.
"The idea for T.I.N. came to me after I helped out a friend with some cash I had earned from busking," Crea explains. "Driving home, I started thinking that following our industry shut-down in mid-March, quite a few of us are struggling during these crazy times. Since I have made my career in the industry for over 40 years, one thought led to another and I realized I could do more busking, which I love, and try to raise more for other Techs In Need. This led to the thought of using the 'T.I.N. Cup,' as a tin coffee cup holds around $100 when filled with change. The T.I.N. Cup Concert Series name grew from there."
As far as how technicians can apply to receive support, Crea writes: "If you or someone you know is a Tech In Need, please send a private message [via our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/techsinneed] and the administrators will add your name to the list. At the end of each event, one name will be drawn from the T.I.N. can for each cup filled and arrangements will be made to get the proceeds of each cup to the recipient(s) with no questions asked."
